Historic Hood River
Fountains at Versailles

Notes
A nice image for a hot day… It’s hard to imagine a Hood River resident visiting France in 1900, but we have plenty of photographs to prove it. These are the fountains at the grounds of the Palace at Versailles. This was likely the same visit we saw documented in this image of the 1900 Paris World’s Fair.
Fountains like this were really a marvel of 17th and 18th Century engineering. While today we can just use electric pumps to create recirculating water features wherever we want, 17th century engineers had to use gravity and storage to create high pressure water sources to create these effects.

Wasn’t if after this, that Hood River’s Paris Fair opened?

Yes, the "Paris Fair" was well-covered in US newspapers and appears to be the inspiration for the Paris Fair store. I think it said "modern" and "fashionable" to Hood River residents.
