Historic Hood River
Flood of May 1948
8-17-2023

Notes
I first thought this was the old Nichols Boatworks during the Columbia River flood of 1948 (AKA Vanport Flood), but the view of Underwood Mountain in the background makes me this this is the Jaymar Mill. If I am correct that would be Wells Island in the near background.

When I was a kid growing up, all the adults talked about the 1948 flood. Now it is getting harder to find someone that remembers it.

Yes, my first thought was this was the mill with Wells Island in the near background.

During the 1948 flood I remember walking out on the bridge with my father (there must not have been much traffic during flood) and seeing whole trees floating down the Columbia.
