The Edward Hines Company purchased the Dee Mill in 1955, along with some other holdings of the Oregon Lumber Company. You can read about the company and its activities in Oregon in this Oregon Encyclopedia post. It looks like it was close to the peak of its operation in this image. You can orient yourself by finding the dam on the river, the Dee highway to the left of the mill, and the bridge across the river with roads to Green Point/Kingsley as well as Punchbowl Falls.

You can also pick out the old elevated water tank, next to the southbound Hwy and east of the dam.

That big tank above “Hines” is visible in the satellite view, though overgrown.

Thank you for this picture. I never knew just how large that mill operation was. No wonder there was a town to grow up around it. When did it close down, after the last fire?

In fact, I don’t think it shows the large multistory building that is still standing in the lower most right hand corner of the photo.
