I hope you don’t mind a rerun, but this is the only eclipse photo we have in our database! Hopefully you’ve found a good location to enjoy the celestial show. Leave a note here for posterity describing where you went and whether it was worth the trip.
This Ella May Davidson image is from the great solar eclipse of June 8, 1918. Hood Riverites enjoyed totality for one minute and 28 seconds. You can read all about it in this account from The Hood River Glacier. I like the mention that at least 50 people from Portland traveling here to view the phenomenon.

If I remember right, they are on the White Salmon hills, which would make sense, looking south.

I wonder what the solar filters used back then, consisted of to protect your eyes??

Everyone being shy? I traveled to see the eclipse and a bunch of history– viewed the eclipse from Crockett Knob on the Malheur National Forest, then returned via Sumpter, where Sloan Shutt had a newspaper before he came to Hood River (https://www.hoodriverhistorymuseum.org?showimage=1252), and then Granite, the gold mining boom town where he went when he left Hood River after less than two months. He was definitely searching for the "thrill" of the boom town.

I was just outside, north of Mitchell. Hwy 207 near the Mitchell transfer station. BLM land so free to camp. Hiked up a close hillock to east, watched the shadow coming fast from west to usher in totality. Very cool, fun thing to see. Seven years to the next one, back east….!

I hope the lady on the left got some medical attention,. She has a very large goiter…..
