This is a nice early view of Second and Oak from the LaFrance home. We’re looking to the WNW. It’s hard to make out much detail, but there is a hardware store on the NE corner facing west, and a restaurant on the NW corner facing east.
The circular format of the photograph was typical of early Kodak film cameras. Cameras like these brought photography to the masses, and mark this as the work of an amateur photographer.

I think we saw another one from this yard, where the woman was leaning up against that fence looking the other direction, more towards their house.

It is really hard to sit at the busy Hood River 2nd and Oak intersection wondering whose turn to go next, and at the same time try to visualize this peaceful home with the picket fence, on the corner.
Photo #8 might show the hardware store across the street.

Kind of interesting to compare the size of the pine/fir?? trees in the front yard, in one of my favorite HHR photos.

Do you have a date for this Arthur? That Hardware store could/should just be called Franz……!

This photo was from the 1890s. Franz hardware opened in 1909, so we’re probably a decade or more early. By the time Franz Hardware opened all four corners had brick buildings.
