Notes
Before the dams and the fill the Columbia River was a marshy place with constantly changing water levels. O.C. Dean, ferry operator, is standing on the bow of his skiff. Presumably this is the ferry landing, but which side of the river?
Andy Pearson is also identified.

Looks like BOZO beach on the Washington side.

If you look at the hill across the river it looks more like an Oregon hill than one on the Washington side. I also say that this is probably a ferry near maybe Dock Road area.

interesting, it seems to me the foreground is oregon side, one of the sloughs of the hood; heights of underwood in background, phot right, dog and wind mountains behind underwood; mitchell point on left. dunno, just what hit me.

I think it looks like Defiance in the background, on the Oregon side. Since Mr. Dean founded the local telephone company I think in Washington (the one the Dean Building that HRC admin is now) I’m going with the Washington side for this picture.

I can’t be sure on this one, but the shadows make me think we’re on the north side of the river, looking to the WSW late in the day. If it’s early in the day we’re looking ENE. The hills don’t seem right for that, and I think it would have to be winter to get that sun angle.

Just to keep the record straight: O. C. Dean was not associated with the telephone company. That was Wade Dean.
