Historic Hood River
Dirty Fingers
3-5-2019

Notes
Continuing our tour of “interiors” of Hood River shops, here’s Gary Paasch repairing a bike at Dirty Fingers Bicycles at their original location on 13th Street. Bicycles have been a part of Hood River life for well over a century. I like to point out that we had as many bike dealers in Hood River around 1900 as we did in 2010. I’m not sure if those earlier bike dealers also served beer, but Dirty Fingers added taps to their new showroom/ shop a couple of years ago.

WAAAM has a 1898 (I believe) Columbia shaft drive, chain-less bicycle, very original with wooden rims. Yes, Hood River was into bicycles long ago 😉

The “roller chain†was invented in 1898. There have been numerous attempt to replace it over the years, but it's still used in everything from cheap to high performance bikes.

Hey Arthur, Dirty Fingers didn't move to the State street location until 2012. This was either taken at the 13th st location, or taken later than 2011.

Thanks Ben. I trust the date since it came from the camera, so I must be wrong on the location. I'll change this to the earlier 13th Street Dirty Fingers location.
