Historic Hood River
Depot Crew

Notes
A few years ago we saw a nice photo of the staff at the Hood River OR&N Company depot at Hood River, along with some partial identifications. This image may clear up some of the identities, though between the two photos there are still some inconsistencies and unknowns. Hopefully you folks can do a better job matching the names between the two photos.
The men here are listed as (left to right): ?, Harold Patton, Volla (?) Buchanan, Frank Smith, Frank Higman, and J. H. Fredricy. In 2015 Homer Yasui suggested the unknown man was Tomoichi Sumida.
There is a charming note added below Mr. Fredricy: “Elks Lodge has his Santa Clause Suit.”

I should have mentioned that looks like Strawberry Mountain in the background, so I think this photo was taken down near the depot.

Mr Fredricy would have made a good Santa, but I hope he left his cigar at home.
I tried looking up some of the names to see what their job description with the railroad entailed but didn’t find much.
