Historic Hood River
Davidson and Hess
11-5-2021

Notes
I don’t know much about this image but it’s a good candid view for a Friday. The label is very blurry, but I think it is J.C and W.B Davidson, along with J.T. and F.B. Hess. This names could be wrong, but we have seen J.C. Davidson before in this image. L.E. told us James and Horatio Davidson were cousins. That would make W.B. James’ brother Walter. Now maybe someone will fill in the Hess’ details? If you click on the Hess tag below there are a few clues.

Well, they certainly look like they could get into mischief. Bet they had some good times.

Three mischievous ones, and a tag along feeling somewhat guilty.

Floyd B. Hess was born in 1887 and died in 1947. He is buried in Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River. His brother, Joseph E. Hess, was born in 1885 and died in 1975. They were born in Canby, Oregon and are the sons of William Hess and Priscilla Corman. William Hess died in 1897, and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Hood River County.
James Caper Davidson was born in 1884 in Ohio and died in 1961 in Hood River. Walter Orlando Burr Davidson was born in 1887 in Ohio. They are the sons of Jesse and Elizabeth Davidson.

Can anyone identify who is who in the above photo?
I am not convinced that the J.C. Davidson that appears in image # 2686 (supposedly taken in 1905) is one of the guys in the above picture. The Davidson family arrived in HR sometime between 1900 and 1905. So the above picture must be between 1900 and 1905. But J.C. Davidson in image # 2686 looks older than the above photo, like he aged rapidly. Maybe it is the beard in the other photo that makes him look older.

@kmb, using other images in the collection I believe that is JC Davidson front left, and WB Davidson back right. I am reasonably confident because we have clear view of the ears in these images. When the shape and folds in the ear match, I’m confident. Both of these guys have the same ear (and same facial expressions) as their solo pictures elsewhere in our collection.
Unfortunately I don’t have any good images to identify the Hess brothers. Joe Hess was behind the camera for several images in our collection, but I don’t see any which identify him.
