Historic Hood River
Crown Point Chalet
7-2-2018

Notes
The Crown Point Chalet was a restaurant that operated above Crown Point and Vista House between 1915 and 1939. You can read about its history here.
This view was shot by Albert Kollas, circa 1918.

The railing lights seen here were restored with alternate ones missing, the evidence of the cut off bolts is still evident.

What a deceiving photo. Did the hill disappear too? 🙂
Arthur
Dan, I think this is a trick of focal length. The Google cam lens is very wide, so it makes the hill appear smaller. That knob is covered by some pretty large trees today, which also hides it a bit too. There’s more of a hill than appears in the Google image.
Longshot
The older picture is taken from a higher position than the Google Maps picture, thus making the hill stand out more.

The advertisement says "a view of the River for 65 miles".
I’m trying to figure that one out.
