It’s County Fair time again. Here we see the Holman and Samuel Sanitary Market and Grocery booth at the 1922 fair. Mr. Holman is showing off the new line of “Preferred Stock” canned goods including corn, tomatoes, and “catchup.” Why does the spelling of that word keep changing? He’s also displaying what looks like a beef roast and a rack of lamb.
Next to Mr. Holman’s booth fair-goers could see the new Edison Amberola phonograph. The catchphrase “Hear Here” beckons them to the booth to discover how the new Edison “baffles an audience of 2800 New Yorkers.”

Wow, like any fair, there is a lot to look at in this photo.
I wondered if the lady on the left was real or a mannequin, but it looks like her hand is moving.
Is the fair set up down on Oak St.?

Have you noticed how great that era was for using boughs and other greens for decorations, no matter what time of the year.
I really don’t think if that is real meat in that case anyone should consider eating it.
Wondering who was selling the phonographs.
There were lots of Samuels and Holman’s living in this area. I wonder if the Samuel part was any relation to Ray Samuel that used to have the meat shop?

Apparently the first "Hood River County Fair" was held in 1919.
