Conde Davidson Visit
Notes
This interesting barn is part of the Ella May Davidson collection. While her notes don’t mention it, she visited Conde S. Davidson at his farm in Knox County Ohio. Conde Davidson was Charles Davidson’s brother, uncle to Ella May, Horatio and their siblings. We learned a little about Charles’ life in Ohio in this post. I suspect this trip was circa 1910 or even earlier, as she was using a more primitive camera than usual (note the lack of focus beyond the central point). Conde Davidson’s farm looks very modern, so I suspect this was a neighbor’s barn. This part of Ohio has a significant Mennonite population, which might account for the dress of this group. We’re pretty far afield from Hood River, but I thought the construction details were worth sharing.

Thanks for the heads up Steffen. I was able to find “The Gorge Magazine” online.
Wonderful that they have acknowledged Arthur and his work. It truly is a unique set up for history and Hood River is fortunate to have such an “elite” site.
As for today’s photo…..I wonder if one side was living quarters and one side was barn.
There is definitely some expertise in the planing and notching of the logs.
