I don’t share many panoramas on HHR because they don’t show well in this format, but this is a fun one. You can see the entire Columbia River Highway bridge over the Hood River and the grade up to Button junction. This is probably from the 1920s, shortly after the bridge was constructed.

Damn, I wish we coulda saved that… Looks like a vehicle parked above the slide just east of the bridge; can you tell what it is on the original? May help date it.

Not very often do you get a photo of the Hood River and you can also look up the White Salmon canyon.
Compare the lack of trees on Burdoin Mtn to today’s view. I don’t think logging contributes to the lack of trees in the early 1900’s because mostly what grows on that hillside is scrub oak.

Yes, we all regret the loss of the bridge, so let’s all be aware of future losses of our history which occurs every day. When you see an impending demolition take a few photos and in 100 years Arthur and Matt will publish them.

When Hwy 35 was built and the bridge over the RR tracks, Harry English chopped the top off the barn, and moved it to the edge of the cliff. Mother’s Marketplace is now in it. There is still a second floor (crawlspace only) above Mother’s, and even some remnants of hay up there!
