Historic Hood River
Clubhouse?
6-4-2026

Notes
I believe this is the present Crag Rats clubhouse near Pine Grove. Can someone confirm, and provide a date? I’m putting “circa 1970” until someone provides a better date.
This clubhouse provided a new home to replace the old one on the west side of Hood River. Remains of the old clubhouse can be seen on a rock outcrop right over the eastbound entrance ramp of I-84 at exit 62.
The Crag Rats will be 100 years old in August.

I have always wondered what that was on the outcrop above the entrance ramp, now I know. Thanks Arthur!

Yes- it is the current Crag Rat Hut. I believe it was 1968. We did 2 wing additions in 2019.
Many of the members helped anyway they could with the building, just like when they built the first Hut at Westcliff. I remember going with my Dad and little brother up to help. My brother and I played in the woods- amazingly we never were affected by the poison oak!
The property was donated by Rat member, Riddell Lage.

I’m lucky enough to have a very large pastel of the old CR hut, done by Oscar Hukari.
I’ve seen lots of photos from the inside of the old hut- especially love the ones of the parties they used to throw! But few of the exterior. It definitely had the look of a log cabin lodge- much like Cloud Cap Inn but on a smaller scale.
