We’re back to the 1970s (or 1980s?) with this view of Cliff’s Market on West Cascade. The building still exists, but the business has been closed for many years. Any stories about Cliff or his market?

I find it bizarre this building and property has been unused for years. The prime location is a complete waist of opportunity for someone to make a decent income, provide jobs and generate revenue for the city coffers.

I totally agree Dale. And this remains of a building is an ‘eyesore’ as well. I’m sure it would sell in a heartbeat….., Why the owner does not list this place to sell is baffling . Time to let the new take over.

yes i used to shop there in 1965 when Cliff and his boys worked there Doug and Mark Beam always a smile and joke good times for sure.

I grew up on 17th and Eugene, and would ride my bike down the steep hill on 20th st. to get my weekly pack of baseball cards and nickel candy. Doug was always the best to all of us neighborhood kids. Pushing the bike back up 20th wasn’t near as fun as riding down.

So when did the name change to ‘Cascade Market’? I remember it as that. And of course ‘Smith’s War Surplus’ was nearby…..

Before we moved to Hood River in 1981, my husband John was working for a grocery warehouse in Milwaukie called American Streville. He was a sales councilor and called on Cliff and at Mid Valley Market in Odell. We wound up buying Mid Valley and Clems in Odell.
We always liked Cliff. Cliff’s son Mark later was the head of Odell Sanitary District and John was on the board for a number of years. Mark’s son Ryan deliver to our store too. The Beam family are wonderful people!

I believe it belongs to Hobie Striech now, he runs the car wash there and in the Dalles too…. I don’t understand why they have let that building sit un-used for so long.
