Did not always see eye to eye with this gentleman. But eventually learned while sitting in his office that it behooved me to spend more time listening and less time talking.

My Mom was his secretary for those 4 years he was at HRHS. She thought he was one of the best bosses she ever worked with. He went on to become the principal of South Eugene High School. I got to observe some of those years while I was at the U of O. In my opinion he helped make South Eugene into one of the best high schools in Oregon.

He and his wife were from Toledo, Washington. A small town north of Longview.

I knew that Cliff was part of the occupation force in Japan at the close of the war.

From the 1959 Eugene newspaper when Moffitt took his job as principal at South Eugene High School. I had to chuckle at some of the information…
Roy Clifford Moffitt Jr. will assume his duties at South Eugene in the 1959-60 academic year…..
The new principal is 40 years old, married, and the father of three children. He is six feet tall, and weighs 200 pounds…
His teaching career began in 1946 in Troy, Idaho….He later taught in Pullman, WA and was principal of the Hood River High School from 1953-1957. Since 1957 he has been with the State Dept. of Education.
He served in the Army as a radar and intelligence officer during WWII. He saw overseas duty in Philippines and Japan. He was recalled to active duty in the Korean War….
Moffitt will receive a salary of $10,143 a year…..
