Here are some more adventurous kids diving off the face of Stanley Rock at Koberg Beach. With current water levels, they would barely make a splash.
As I write this post I’m looking across at the same side of Hospital Hill. All of those patches of vegetation have extended considerably. Most of the west side of that drainage is tree covered now.

AH yes, this brings me back to my childhood. Use to that all the time.

It looks like there are a lot of loose rocks where the kids are jumping from. I don’t remember that from the 50’s.

Looks like a water line just above the two divers?
Did you come in higher up on the rock and then climb down to where they are diving?
And when did boys no longer wear the singlet top swimsuit?
Yes, I am always a little surprised at how much more vegetation covers the WS hills compared to the early photos here. I suppose fires such as what is taking place right now at Rowena could contribute to less vegetation.
I have wondered if the Bonneville pool creates more humidity or if our climate has changed enough to create more growth.

By coincidence I happened to be boating by this spot last evening. The depth sounder said 165 feet right near this spot. You can still see the marking for the height of the 1894 flood about 20 feet up the rock just around the corner.

We climbed up from the river in the 50’s. But as I remember it , when we climbed up the face we were closer to the beach where we started up, than these kids are.

And I don’t remember any ledges where you could sit down. It appears the face of Stanley Rock has changed some over the years.

And now that you mention water lines, it looks like there are several, and dramatically different. One of the reasons they said they were building the dams.

Some VERY serious accidents happened as a result of the diving. But in the 50’s we were indestructible weren’t we?

We thought we were indestructible, and some of us got lucky.
