City Hall Holiday Party
Notes
This looks like the Hood River city hall/ fire station holiday party in the late 1930s. I recognize Mayor Scobee at the table alongside the fire department personnel, who have politely taken off their caps for dinner. It looks like turkey with gravy and cranberry sauce, or maybe I’m just hungry and imagining what I would enjoy.
The photograph is by Joe Young, who took so many great photographs of the fire department. He had a heating oil delivery business but also volunteered with the Hood River Fire Department for many years.
Hope you’ve all survived the office parties and are enjoying a happy holiday. I’ll be taking the rest of the week off so I can try to make some small improvements to the website. Hopefully you’ll see an improved Historic Hood River next Monday!

I love this!
Wooden rocking chair, improvised table, Christmas tree full of tinsel. Can you believe we actually used to carefully remove the tinsel and store it for another year.
The guy on the right is hungry. No talking for him.
