Notes
Cherry harvest is starting at lower elevations in the Hood River valley, assuring us that it really is summertime. This worker is checking the size of the cherries against the “Northwest Canners Association Standard Conversion Chart”.
Over the years size of cherries has become even more important. I’ve spoken with orchardists who have left cherries this size unpicked because they were unmarketable.

I wish orchardists would somehow notify local folks that they can come pick these subsized cherries for a reduce price. Benefit both buyer and seller.

Yuck. What a boring job. I sorted beans one summer and that also was boring.
I am not sure she is the regular sorter. Her fingers aren’t stained.

It looks like she’s grading the cherries, to determine how much the grower should be paid for the load this sample was taken from. Possibly she’s an inspector from the Dept of Agriculture (or a model depicting one).
