Historic Hood River
Chas. R. Spencer

Notes
It’s a shame this image of the Chas. R. Spencer docked at Hood River is so damaged. In between the damage you can see wonderful details, like the pile of fruit boxes on the beach and the shiny whistle on top of the ship. The emulsion of this negative appears to have stuck to the glass of a neighboring negative. Unfortunately the emulsion itself is damaged, so it’s not likely even an expert conservator could do much to fix it. Several of our negatives have bits of emulsion stuck to the non-emulsion side. That can be relatively easily removed so at least it doesn’t obscure the scan of the emulsion on the other side of the plate.

Sometimes, I think getting the glimpse is actually more captivating. This is that kind of image.
