Historic Hood River

Grace’s artifact for this week is this championship cup from the 1925 basketball season:

In 1925, Hood River High School won the Central Oregon Basketball Championship, and this trophy was the result. The March 12, 1925, issue of The Hood River Glacier paints a vivid picture of the action. The back of the trophy lists the names of the players: H. Flint (Capt.), J. Hathhorn, V. Miller, P. Koberg, C. Foreman, L. Wright, and H. Triplette. While we have the trophy today, it is curious to think about what a photograph of the game itself might have captured.

“P. Koberg” would be Prince Koberg, who we’ve seen several times before.  We have several team photos in our collection but none appear to be of this winning team.  The Hood River High School yearbook from that year would have a team photo, but those haven’t been digitized yet
