Smelt run December to March. I am guessing this is east of Hood River. Maybe trying to clean out introduced fish like carp, or bass or maybe bull frogs??

I agree with L. E. I don’t think that smelt were allowed to be caught in that fashion. Think it was only with a dip net. It doesn’t appear to me to have enough trees on the shore to be the Sandy. But who am I to know?

Interesting. Don’t have a clue what they are after. But agree appears to be east of Hood River-flat country and brush along bank. And smelt runs go upstream.

When I was a kid, fellows used to go to the Sandy River to catch smelt. And this looks like the Sandy River to me.

No trees, I would guess east of The Deschutes. Seems if a net was fine enough for smelt and this length it would be too heavy for two men without any fish in it ~
