Cascade Locks in the ’50s

This charming snapshot of Cascade Locks in the 1950s shows one of the multiple motor courts which were common the length of the Columbia River Highway. I can’t guarantee the one shown below is the same one, but it could be. I’ll bet it won’t be around much longer.
The copy beneath the image of “The Ladies’ Shop” and “The Men’s Shop” is perfect. “One stop shopping for husband and wife” (though not in the same building). I wonder what “clever vacation accessories” could be found inside?
Note the theater next door to the insurance agency.
Also… this weekend marked the 14th anniversary of Historic Hood River starting daily posts. The first post was March 9, 2011, but posts were sporadic as I worked out bugs in the software until March 22, 2011 when we started posting every weekday. Other than a brief break while we updated the software last year, there’s been a post every work day at 7AM, for just under 3600 days. There have been over 25,000 comments from readers which are preserved alongside the posts. This experiment at crowdsourcing history continues.
