Historic Hood River
Camp Lewis

Notes
Olga Plog’s road trip seems to end with visits to family and military bases in the Seattle area. Here we are at Camp Lewis, Washington on August 22, 1924. Camp Lewis became Fort Lewis, and is now part of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Presumably they returned to Hood River. On today’s roads this road trip is at least 1000 miles. I’m impressed they covered that distance in 1924 in a period of less than two weeks.

Thanks for sharing this amazing road trip. Camp Lewis is in the area of Tacoma so they must have returned home via highway 99.

This entrance has been preserved, it is just south of the present Fort Lewis main gate and is visible from I-5.

Thanks so much Arthur. Insight to what young ladies did in the 20’s, and insight into travel conditions. They were brave and confident ladies. Plus they must have had a comfortable bank account to lean on. I did 6000 miles in a modern vehicle on modern highways and considered myself brave. Not so much.
