Historic Hood River
Boys of Summer

Notes
This is a nice sharp view of the Hood River baseball team, circa 1915. I wonder if that’s Edgar and Earl Franz in the middle (seated). Do you think they match these boys? I think we saw Edgar as the catcher in this image. They were playing at Columbia Park in the Heights (at the armory site on Belmont).

Any idea how long the nearby Little League Baseball park has been used for that purpose? It was there by the early 1960’s when I played there. Could it be associated with the old Columbia Park? When was the Armory moved to the Columbia Park location?

It looks like the team was well staffed with 11 players. Many of the pictures you see from this era it seems that the teams only had 9 players on the team

My guess is Columbia Park disappeared when the armory was moved there. I don’t have a record of the year. It was outside of the city proper so does not appear on the Sanborn maps.
Isn’t the Little League field on the Catholic Church property? I wonder when the church moved to this location.
Judy Judd
The field used to be owned by the church.
