In 1955 you could bowl and pick up you orchard sprays downtown. You may recognize the Hood River Bowling Alley location as the longtime home of Bette’s Place on Oak Street.
Right around the corner (5th and Cascade) was the location of the Hood River Supply Association. They are now operating in the Heights with a much larger store which anyone working on a garage project visits several times a weekend.

Bowling is an example of how times change. When I was a kid, bowling was a popular social event and every community had a theater and a bowling alley.

You are showing the wrong location for the Hood River Supply Assn. The Co-Op building was the next lot west of the Post Office. The building was torn down to make way for the present Pro Motion Wetsuits building.

My Mom and grandma lived in the apartment above the Hood River Supply building.

Demolition of the Co Op building alsoallowed for the construction of the ( late, lamented? ) Hood River Cinemas. In the aerial photo from 11-19-24 you can see the Co Op property extending to Columbia Street. After the Supply assn. moved to their Tucker Road facility the building housed a retailer of windsurfing equipment. The owners kept the sign, added a circumflex between “River” and “Supply” and painted the word “Boardsailing” above.
