It looks like the ref is trying to decide if this dunk is illegal. It is.
We’ve seen many images from this Hood River Fire Department vs Crag Rats basketball game before. It was photographed by Joe Young. We know Bill Pattison played in this game, but he doesn’t seem to be in this frame.

I think Ross Hukari is the player second from the right.
Maybe Bill Gale up on the basket ( he was a short man) and that might be Bill Pattison under the basket…. Need to have his son look at it.

Just realized that if the Crag Rats are in the white shirts -that the 2 men in the dark shirts, I thought were RossH and Bill P, would be on the opposite team as Bill Gale -above the basket. My mistake!
Don Pattison responded to me that it was definitely Bill Gale up there but didn’t recognize anyone else.

My brother, Buck Parker, and I agree that is our father, Vawter Parker, on end of row leaning out about 5th row up of spectators. This is so typical of an evening’s entertainment when Hood River was still such a small town.
Do have to ask why is there a hoop on the wall above audience?

Good question Cecelia. Being a former school employee, The bleachers roll up against the wall so classes will have multiple short floors to practice shooting, maybe as many as 4 – 6 practice areas.

I just remember my disgust that in girls basketball we could only run half court and then pass the ball as running full court was thought to be too much for young damsels. And enjoying girls P.E. was considered unlady like. One was expected to groan and barely cooperate. I remember the first gymnastics demo. Faculty was stationed around the gym in case there were cat calls or booing. Instead, the student body cheered

someday I would like an explanation of why women sports took a break between my Mother’s generation and when I went to school. My mother played basketball for Odell High School…nothing like that at HRHS.
I should also note that one of my memories of the middle school is Pete Jubitz putting his arm through an exit door window.

You’re right Arlen. I think the only girls’ team sport at HRHS in the 50’s was a tennis team even with the swimming pool right across the street. That wasn’t even used for PE classes.
