If I remember right they moved a lot of rock to make a good area to drive their wagons back and forth, so they didn’t break their wheels. I wish I could remember how many wagons there were, but that was so long ago.

Amazon here I come. I will have to see if I can order the movie. I doubt if my children or grandchildren have seen it, and, after seeing these photos I would certainly like to watch it again.
It makes you curious about who in the filming industry chose the Mt Hood area. Any idea where the actors and crew stayed?

You’d be surprised how many movies and tv shows were made here, but this was "the big one." At least for my dad! But I don’t know where this was shown… The Rialto? What was theater #51?

Another great historic memory, thanks, you are the highlight of my day.

My mom says she thinks they stayed at the Columbia Gorge Hotel, at least the stars. She saw Jimmy Stewart at the Mt Hood Country Store (EVERYONE went there) and she thought it so strange he wasn’t wearing socks. They saw the movie at the Parkdale Theatre.

For some odd reason I think it was shown in the other theater down the street..All I remember is standing in line and the excitement that it created.

Two or three years ago, I seen several prints online like these from," Bend of the River" along side of current photo’s (1990’s), of the same area. I would appreciate any info on where I can see these again.
