I’ve been to the top of Beacon Rock, but it was 65 years ago and I don’t remember how it looked up there.

That island on the right has me puzzled. Like Bill, I was up there about 60 years ago. Not interested in going back up to check out the view.

I think so. Hard to be sure but I think the background slopes give it away–if you position right over Beacon Rock on Google Maps, they match well with the three ridges between McCord Creek and Warrendale. I’m guessing the island on the right was “lost” related to I-84 construction, and just left of the boy’s feet I think we’re seeing a smidge of Pierce Island. The shadows are right for the afternoon sun, the viewpoint rail and rocks have surely been changed, and this exact view may be tree obstructed now…the current top viewpoint seems to look more southeast than south. But for a 1918 trail the clothes look right. We don’t know the photo year or subjects?
