This real photo postcard of the Battle Axe Inn at Government Camp is dated “Fall 1943.”  We saw a similar image a few years ago, but this one is a bit sharper.

The stacks of fire wood help promote the promise of “Heated Rooms” on the sign.  There are also signs for “US Post Office”, “Mt. Hood Stages”, “Telephone” and “AAA Official.”

The Battle Axe Inn played a role in the history of the Crag Rats.  This is where Calvin White Jr. was brought for treatment after he was found by Bill Cochran in the Crag Rats first mountain rescue.
