Historic Hood River
Bashful Bridge
5-8-2023

Notes
Might as well finish of the week with another fine interior view. A note on the reverse says, “First Butler Bank. Truman Butler at desk in front.” Notes in another hand indicate the other men are Leslie Butler, Harold Hershner, and Carl Vaughn. We previously saw a this interior view of the Butler Bank customer area. I suspect this was taken at the same time, and shows the other side of the screen separating customers from staff.
They’re showing off all their technology: a fine electric lamp, telephone, cash register, and a check printing machine.

I admire the lighting standards along the bridge. I recollect the lighting atop of Rocky Butte in Portland and the lighting at Crown Point as adding a bit of flair to each.
Norma
I remember the light guiding planes into PDX. It might have been on top of Stanley Rock. It shown in my bedroom windows every night.
LMH
Thanks Norma bringing back a childhood memory. The rotating light fascinated me for years.
Stretching from Rocky Butte to Heppner the series of lights and radio aids guided planes through the Columbia Gorge safely.
The WAAAM Museum has one of the towers on display outside plus an internal display of the actual lighting equipment.
