Here is Bess the dog, Mace (Baldwin), Mace Sr., Harry Prindle and mother Ella May (Stranahan) Baldwin at Tollbridge Park circa 1898. The reverse says, “Note lunch bucket carefully placed out of sight.”

i thought maybe Harry Prindle was the hired man except he is dressed pretty fancy for a hired man. The 1910 census says he lives on Oak St. with his wife Jessie. They have been married 12 years and have two children. He is involved in real estate.
Mace looks like he is still hungry.

Stephen Mason Baldwin known as Mace (Sr.) married Ella May (Stranahan) Freemont, a divorcee who was 32 years his junior. She was the daughter of Oscar and Adelia Stranahan. After Mace’s death she would marry a man by the name of Albert B.Jones.
Leonard Mason, young Mace was born in their log cabin in the upper Hood River Valley, grow up in that area and later be in various endeavors in town. He married Alda Puddy.
He was one of the charter members of the Crag Rats and was involved greatly in the organization as was his son Blancher.
As to the dog, her names was probably Elizabeth, but they called her Bess.
Love the original table at Toll Bridge Park….Wonder what that thing is that is hooked to the tree?

Was this a real bridge at one time? Love to hear the history of it. It seem to remember daddy taking us across a crickety old bridge right before we got home in Parkdale one night. The boards were loose, and daddy stopped the car and hesitated at first, but slowly drove across. I think it must have been this bridge or Dethman’s bridge. Not sure which. This would have been in about 1959, and I remember the creek behind our house where we used to play. This was before the old Loop Highway was changed.
Anyone still remember those days?
