Apple Sorting Machine

Notes
This glass negative shows a nice apple sorting machine. Apples come in on the upper belt. Small ones fall through the holes and exit to the left, while larger ones are carried up to the rear bin for packing.

Quite interesting….I do notice a few things. One is that apparently this machine does not size the fruit. If people are actually packing, they would have to pick for size to make their boxes uniform and nice looking.
That belt that convey’s the fruit to their drop into the holes looks to me like a fruit bruising issue. Generally you wish a nice cushioned piece of machinery.
What was the power behind this? It appears to me this machine is just sitting there for the purpose of photographing it. I think there had to be more to this, on the back side, where the fruit went into a bin or something for whoever was packing.
Do we have any idea who had or made this contraption?

More accurately I would say this device rejects undersized fruit.
This is definitely a "photo op." Unfortunatey we don’t have any more information on who captured the image or where it might be.

Nowadays, I might take a picture of a piece of equipment like this – sitting somewhere odd – in order to try to sell it. Wonder if that’s the occasion to snap a shot of something like this, that so few people would care about…

I just assumed they snapped a picture to put it on eBay!
