Historic Hood River
Anne Lang Portraits
2-27-2024

Notes
We’ve seen some wonderful Anne Lang portraits over the years, like this and this and this. And then there is this one. The subject (perhaps her sister Bess) is shielding herself from the camera or the sun. I’m sure there is a story behind this one, but we’ll probably never know. I wonder how far that rock has moved since this image from the mid-1890s?
This image was probably captured a short hike from Cloud Cap Inn. Anne Lang would have been hauling a heavy tripod, camera, and glass plates. The farthest we have evidence of her venturing from Cloud Cap with her camera was “Sand Canyon” along Pollalie Creek.

I think she found a warm rock for a nap!

Any information as to where this is ?
I’m thinking a higher elevation.
