Historic Hood River
Alva Day, Fisherman
3-6-2018

Notes
Here’s a nice selfie of Alva Day after a July 1938 fishing expedition. He made an error annotating the negative with his “autographic camera” so you can see the note which is usually on the other end of the negative. He proudly noted the fish’s weight at 10 3/4 pounds.

A nice Steelhead and around 1935 Chevy Coupe!

The fishing pole is longer than the car! :O
Arthur
Dale, I thought you would like this– a steelhead and an old car!
L.E.
On this fishing trip he must have driven, or maybe he is just resting his pole for the photo. I wonder if Alva would walk to the edge of the HR bluff from his house and then hike down to the river to fish.

Look at his dress. How many fishermen wear a shirt with a tie to go fishing today?
Dale Nicol
Thanks Arthur!

the tie is the worst male attire known to mankind……

That picture is taken on the west side of his house at 420 June St. He traded this car in on a !953 Chev. My grandma had just had her 7th stroke and he wanted something easier riding for her. She died shortly after this with her eighth stroke.
My grandpa died shortly after this when a jeep he was riding in on a hunting trip slide on ice and he was killed. Some of his fishing and hunting gear was passed
onto me when my dad died in 1990.

It was a 1935 coup all right. My Grand Dad traded it in on a 1953 Chev. IO was not expected to live much longer and he knew she would like it. Alva told me there was quite a discussion about who was going to get the chance to own it at the GM sales
office. I remember that on the visor there was a hang Hitler badge. Alva would give me a bad time if I played with it to much. It had a string on it that when you pulled it it would hang hitler I now own it.If Arther enlargers Alva
display I’ll donate it along with a beautiful presentation fly rod from the then governer of Oregon that was presented to Alva. It has never been used.

Did that little car have a rumble seat?
