I think this is Alva Day on his 1917 visit to Alaska. He spent some time visiting the fishing boat Leonine, and this may be a self portrait on that ship.

    My first thought was Alva Day when I opened the photo.
    Looks like maybe he has been cleaning fish?

    I'm sure you've mentioned it previously, but what was Mr. Day's primary occupation? And, yes Kyle, very nice to see him in front of the camera.

    Alva Day worked for Pacific Power.

    That looks like a carpenter's apron, and I'd guess that is paint spatter on the

    pants and jacket. A working vacation, or helping a friend out? It this at the door

    to the captain's deck?
