This one’s pretty easy! A. C. Buck has no fewer than four calendars on his wall, so we know it’s April 1910. The Fashion Livery and Dray Company calendar is the clearest– it has cowboys herding sheep. Mr. Buck was thoughtful enough to take out an advertisement in The Hood River Glacier offering his services as a Notary Public and selling insurance out of Room 12 in the Brosius Block. You can see his notary seal on the shelf.
I can’t figure out the model of the typewriter he’s hunched over. It looks a little like the Remington Standard No. 6 in our collection, but that’s not a match. Google’s AI is convinced it’s a Smith Premier Model 1 or 2, but that’s not a match either.
A. C. Buck was also an early Hood River County Justice of the Peace, and we saw his daughter Nettie the “telephone girl” earlier this week.

Wow, what a character and scene. Mr. Buck seems to be quite the large person, in presence and resume, and what a look on his face, eyes wide open, hair kerfuffled, dwarfing the typewriter.
