Historic Hood River
_igurd Nelson

Notes
This image from The Hood River Glacier archives is captioned, “…igurd Nelson, Hood River boy, who wins high place as singer. This picture is from a photograph of a charcoal drawing made by J. Stanley Fox, noted English artist.”
I found two men named Sigurd Nilssen, one of whom was a singer described as “Oregonian by birth, of Norwegian parentage. The other one was an actor who starred in “Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.” I’m going with the first one. I found a 1921 article in The Hood River Glacier about the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nelson making it big in New York City. It seems he used an older spelling of his surname in his professional life.

I wonder if he sang like Willie Nelson.
There are several mentions of Sigurd performing at Whitman. When I scrolled through an attendance sheet at the time he was attending Whitman, there were five or six other students from Hood River.
