We continue our countdown to the Fourth with another photo of Independence Day celebrations past. This one is from 1911, showing revelers enjoying the parade down Oak Street. The Paris Fair Building and its two neighbors are still around, looking very much like they did this day 100 years ago.

The two buildings have changed very little in 100 years. The clothing style has seen a tremendous change. I don’t know about the style of the furniture, but it has become more comfortable.

Bartmess Furniture was also an undertaker, which was a common practice for furniture makers back then. If you could make bookshelves, you could make coffins.

The leaves at the top of the photo appear to be oak. And if so that is one tall tree. And proof of the appropriateness of the street’s name.

If I am not mistaken those are windows in the second story. In the left hand group it appears there are reflections of pine trees, could that be? One question alway leads to another. I bet the man in the far right of the picture with the long white beard could tell us a story or two.
