Oliver P. Ramsey and Bertha Madge Warren

I believe this is Oliver Ramsey with his future bride Bertha Madge Warren in 1901. They were married in 1902, according to notes on the reverse. Bertha Madge Warren was daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Warren, 1877 settlers in Hood River. We saw them in this photo.
I’ve scrolled past this one a hundred times without appreciating the great detail: the fine clothing, the umbrella, the homestead in the background.
Another photos suggests Bertha Madge Warren later married a Mr. Appleton. Perhaps others can fill in the genealogy.

I don’t know about this Mr. Appleton. Oliver (1871-1934) and Bertha (1877-1972) are buried together, with her name being Bertha Madge Ramsey. With that 1877 birthdate, she was either born just prior to her parents arrival in H.R. or just afterwards. They apparently only had one child, a daughter named Dorothy.
This is probably a portion of the Warren family homestead.
I am curious about the chain around her neck going down to a pocket. It might very well be glasses of the era, a little pocket watch or what else? I have a gold hairpin with chain that my great-great grandmother had for her little pinch on glasses.

According to census, Oliver was a surveyor. Both he and Bertha are buried at Scappoose, Oregon. In 1880, as a young boy, Oliver and his family were living in Scappoose.
Daughter Dorothy married Ray Olsen in Skamania County.

Well Arthur, I don’t know how you came up with the Appleton name, because I was just about ready to give up. I finally found a marriage certificate for Ira Appleton and Bertha M Ramsey, April 19th, 1937. The marriage took place in Vancouver, Clark County Washington.
The bride’s father and mother are Bernard and Elizabeth Warren, so I feel comfortable that this is our Bertha Madge.
Ira passed away in 1946.

I don’t know how you enlarge parts of photo to check details but could she have gloves on? Her hands look quite smooth and white stripes could be decoration on gloves.

RAMSEY – WARREN
A quiet wedding was solemnized at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Warren, June 28th. The contacting parties were O.P. Ramsey of Portland and Miss Madge Warren. The happy couple left on the afternoon train for Portland, and from there they went to Seaside. They will visit Puget sound on their wedding trip, returning to Portland, where they will be at home Sept. 1. The bride is the only daughter of our esteemed citizen, Bernard Warren, one of the first settlers of Hood River. She is an estimable woman and held a position as teacher in the Hood River school, being reelected for the coming term. She has resigned as teacher and her place will be filled at next meeting of the board of directors. Mr. Ramsey is a civil engineer in Portland. The Glacier extends congratulations to the young couple.
