I like this Alva Day Legion Climb view from 1930. The climbers are roped in, working their way up a steep, well-worn track. There is a Crag Rat taking up the rear, and you can just make out a pair of folks helping people over the lip at the top of this pitch.
I haven’t shown and entire uncropped Alva Day negative for a while. This is how I see them– many with the time and date detail inscribed by Day on the negative using his special “Autographic” camera and film.

Oh my burning lungs. I think Alva is able to portray in this photo, the climb is not easy. Whoever packed the rope had a heavy load.
There appears to be a pipe lying in the rocks in the front of the photo.

I’m guessing this is the top of the Cooper Spur route, I’ve not been there in a long time, but that would be my guess. Arthur is the route written on your negative, or whatever? So many routes to the top!

While we don’t have any notes about the route, I suspect laying out all the negatives for the day in time order would give someone who knows the mountain a pretty good idea. My records show we have 25 negatives from this date, spanning 4:05 AM to 3:15 PM.

That’s not a pipe- I think it’s a a section of rope. You can see it laid out on both sides of rock.

The Hood River Legion climb was always up Cooper Spur, plus it looks like the top of Cooper Spur.
