I think this is Harry Dewitt’s wife, “Pansy.” She carefully labelled all the other photos in the collection, so I’m assuming the one without a label must be her.
She is standing First Street north of Oak, opposite the Wm. Rand Livery building which we saw in the very first Historic Hood River post.

Yes, she is attractive and she makes you smile.
When trying to find out some history about Harry Dewitt, there were always little blurbs in the paper about Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt going here or there. She looks energetic.

Was Front Street part of the original town plat or did it come about later?
Just curious what it actually fronted. The Hood River or the railroad?

l.e., Front shows on the 1881 "Town of Hood River" plat as the east edge of the plat, going from Bridge (now State) Street north to River ( now Cascade) Street and the "railroad". Bear in mind that the east edge of front street right-of-way is also the east boundary of the Coe Donation Land Claim. Surveyed by Newton Clark, one of the original Government Land Office surveyors in our area, for whom some creeks and glaciers are named.

Arthur, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the Livery building that was located on First Street just below Oak behind Pansy? And if so, wouldn’t image #1 be better example of a similar view?

I know Front Street was used in addresses south of State St. cause growing up our address was 419 Front St.

Well this is embarrassing– Jim is right, this is the livery on First, not the one at Oak and Front. I have both pictures on my screen right now and they are extremely similar buildings, but the window placement definitely makes this the Wm. Rand Livery building, not the Fashion Garage. I will update the post, and I’ll show you the real Fashion Garage in a later post.

Arthur, as part of our "ËœFinal Exam’ for Mystery Monday #222, I spent a fair amount of time scrutinizing your first post; it must have permanently imprinted on my retina.
l.e., talk about a good eye; I do see the similarity between Pansy and the mystery lady in the back row in #251.

Another probably little known information on Dewitt. He was one of the founders of Hood River Electric Co-op, serving also on the first board of directors as the treasurer.
