Albert Kollas couldn’t resist another shot of everyone in their Cartercar on their way to the Columbia River Highway dedication. This is probably just east or west of Multnomah Falls, where the road has been replaced by I-84.
On a hunch I checked The Hood River Glacier for June 15, 1916. Describing those from Odell present at the highway dedication, they report “[also present were] Mr. and Mrs. Harry Emery, Jerry Christner and Albert Kollas. The latter secured some good pictures of the highway at points along the way, as well as at the principal place of interest for the day.”

Only two spares? Must have been planning for only a short trip.

How was the power in these cars with 5 people?
I had a mini van that scooted up hills with just me driving, but, put four more adults in it and it struggled getting up the hill.

This car was probably about 30HP. Cars were geared low back then so they could get up a hill when fully loaded, though not very quickly. I’m sure there were a few parts of the Columbia River Highway that forced Mr. Emery to downshift, but at no point would Mrs. Emery have to walk behind the car.
