Notes
The Hood River High student body of 1912-13 posed in front of the impressive 1908 building on May Street, at the present location of the May Street Elementary School.
Panoramic portraits were very popular during this period. We have many such images of school classes, clubs, and military groups. They present a special challenge for storage and scanning, and I’ll admit they don’t work too well with the format of this photoblog.

I can’t pick her out, but know that my great-aunt is in this picture, as she rode her horse, Ginger from the ranch in Pine Grove. I have no idea where she stabled it during the day. Lots of things I wished I had of asked, when there were those around when I could have.

Looking in the background we know why they called the street to the south Pine Street.

Were most teachers male, or maybe that is the Board of Education on the steps? That gentleman in the front looks like he could rival Abe Lincoln in height.

There was only one route from Pine Grove to Hood River, and that would have been what we now know as Eastside, past Panorama Point and on down. Naturally she would not have gone on Ginger in bad weather. I have no idea whether her father took her if, especially in snow weather she stayed home. I should have asked a little more about it.
I would guess that those probably would be the same stairs.

I grew up at on the NW corner of 7th & June, my father indicated there was a stable/blacksmith on or near that area, we found a number of horseshoes there. a stable like building was on the rear of the lot by the big white house on the SW corner of 7th & May so perhaps Ginger was boarded there.
