Apparently the holiday season has been an excuse for shopping for longer than I knew. This ad from the Glacier dates from the 1890s.
I wonder if the hernia ad was to encourage people to get treatment under the current year’s insurance deductible?

Randalyn Nickelsen Clark
Martin Heinrich Nickelsen was my great great grandfather and one of 5 siblings to come from the Isle of Fohr in Denmark to The Dalles. Martin then came to Hood River after helping to build the railroad through the Gorge. He was originally a blacksmith in Denmark and then the gold country of California. When he came to Hood River, he became a merchant. His wife Inge Rorden Nickelsen was a midwife.
