Historic Hood River
Haywire Orchestra and Barbershop Quartet
7-27-2016

Notes
Meet the Hood River Rotary Haywire Orchestra and Barbershop Quartet. Notes indicate a timespan of 1935-1942. Present are Harold Herschner, Jess Jones, Penn Crum, Hal Nesbit, Clint Cameron, Rube Sche, I. D. Parkins, Joe Myer, and Bob Perigo. The reverse seems to list part of their schedule for one season. They had 12 performances that spring/summer, playing local Rotary clubs, AGA meetings, the Legion climb, and even an appearance on KGW radio. Notes indicate they played 6 nights one week as part of a World War 2 bond drive.

Buzz…..does this remind you of a "sisters" stage act of a "few" (1959) years ago? bet these guys were a hoot on and off the stage.
Buzz
Hope there is no pictures of that performance.
Arlen Sheldrake
so much for your hopes Buzz;;;;it is in our yearbook and my mother captured us in a photo I only look at when laughter is needed…remember what we used for bra "fillers"?
L.E.
Ewwww!
I hope the music was good.
Arthur
So Arlen has a photo of an important moment in Hood River history which he isn’t sharing with us???
Buzz
Yeah, Arlen, I "borrowed" the caps off the post at the drive-in theater.
Arlen Sheldrake
an "important" moment in HR history? wow, history is sure in the eye of the beholder…..recently got my slide collection scanned by Costco and will look it up..it may however crash your system Arthur. as I remember Buzz, those caps worked pretty well but we were still pretty flat chested….
L.E.
Thanks for making me laugh!
Judy
I hope someone from the current Rotary sees this. Or, if you have someone on your email list, that is a member, forward it to them. Lions did the same silly stuff.
