Notes
We’ve seen a few different images of Alva Day in his role with the State Game Commission and their fish stocking program. Here’s a July 1, 1934 expedition to stock Olallie Lake. The trucks have taken the fish as far as they can. They will complete their journey on horseback.
It looks like the milk cans of the earlier days have been replaced with custom fish paniers for the horseback part of the trip. I wonder if the descendents of any of these fish still inhabit the lake.

Mountain lakes are still stocked by this method.

Most all of the wilderness lakes are not stocked any more. The idea is to return them to native conditions. ie, before our arrival, us humans….

Perhaps not in Oregon, James, but I have friends who horse pack fish into some of the high altitude Gifford Pinchot Lakes. Indian Heaven and the Goat Rocks.
Anyway they did two years ago.
