It’s nice to see a color image every once in a while. This view from the east side loops catches Hood River with one foot in the past and one foot in the present. We see the interstate and the start of the Port area with the Nichols Basin, but we still have the old bridge over the Hood River and the industrial buildings at the east end of State Street.

Fall time in Hood River. What are those silo things down there. I don’t remember them at all. Good view of Dr. Wells’ island there in the river.
Certainly shows how straight across the Hood River Bridge went. It was hard enough for trucks hauling fruit to make that turn. Could just imagine the big rigs that haul in these times, trying to make that corner.

And no Button Farm.
The build up for the freeway really cut off access and a view to the Columbia River.
Definitely a golden Autumn look with a haze in the air. I can almost feel the bustle of harvest and smell the overripe apples on the ground.

Those silo’s are probably above ground fuel tanks down where Carson Oil currently sits.

Does it mean you are getting old when historical pictures are dated after you have reached legal age and left town. And remember the old joke about the rubber band tied to the clock at the bank and to your butt, so you could only get so far away, then you would be back.

Definitely the oil tanks at Carson. Also the old wooden Button Bridge, marina is still in Niclols, and a peek at our house through the foreground tree! And just a few weeks from those lazy, hazy days of autumn here…
