Historic Hood River
Leila Hershner

Notes
Here are both sides of a cabinet card from the Hershner file. Someone has helpfully written a name on both sides, though much of it has been rubbed off and the handwriting isn’t the easiest to decipher. Based on other images in the file I’m comfortable identifying this as Leila Hershner, from about 1890. She was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. John L. Hershner. Fortunately we have a 1905 image of her in high school, which helps with the date.
I love the explosion of typefaces on the reverse. I remember when word processors were new and people were going wild with mixed fonts. It feels like something similar was going on here. Here’s a nice sample of fonts from this era.
