Notes
That’s a fine looking ferry or excursion ship nudged up against the shore in the Hood River delta, just north of the train station. I believe Commodore Dean himself is standing on the bow. Note the dense cottonwood forest which grew at the waterfront in those days.

Ohhhh, there are my cottonwoods. I wonder if some of those trees might be Ash. It was not uncommon for pockets of them to grow on the river bottom ground amongst the cottonwood.
It looks like Mr. Dean might be taking some dignitaries somewhere.

I noticed something. The road going up the hill side in Washington. It looks a lot like Dock Road, but it is going the wrong way up….

Good catch charlott. Looking at the high-res it looks like a log flume to me. Pretty sure this is east of the White Salmon across from the mouth of the Hood River, as that is the exact view from my house. Anyone know about a log flume on that hillside?

There was a road that went up that direction. You can still see parts of it when there is snow on the ground.

Twas the road that went up to the Eeyrie/Pucker Huddle. You can still see its grade today fairly clearly, if you are looking for it.
